the colors and shapes, they sing to me soothingly

I wonder if synaesthesia is part of why sorting beads soothes me, and if ADHD likewise?

Whatever it is, it is helping again today, and I am glad of it.

Do you have things that soothe you?

Those seem like plausible things.

Do you have the thing where having made visible progress helps? (I was thinking this weekend about how knitting when I had the health crash was helpful because I could see I'd done a thing when I'd spent time on it. It was visible and tangible.)

any of the playlists that come up on Spotify when I search "drum trance"

…if the playlist has "shamanic" in the title, then I am cranky about it first, but apparently the people who curate those playlists hit whatever it is I'm after better than the other people? I think it's because those playlists avoid vocals and the others don't so much, but idk for sure

Nice cup of tea, especially if I do the whole teapot & pouring thing instead of, like, microwaving a mug.

Certain music.

Coloring, sometimes, or other simple procedural art.

Sorting beads actually sounds quite nice. Maybe I should go arrange my rock collection in a pleasing fashion.

I arranged rocks and then sorted through my jewelry box. It was nice, like listening to music for my eyeballs.

Also, I remembered that looking at nice curving fractally plants (or art of same) is also soothing.

I have taken to listening to Gillian Welch's "I Dream A Highway" before bed if I have had a particularly fraught day.

I have a can of buttons that I sort sometimes because the kinesthetic experience of having them in my hands combined with the pleasant brainfeels of making them all orderly in some fashion (usually but not always primary sort on color) is Extremely Good.

Sewing things, especially stuffed animals. Stroking soft things, such as fur fabric (or actual fur, but that's harder to come by). Fondling/squeezing soft squishy things. Basically, holding/hugging a stuffed animal is very soothing. Now I know why I bought so many during the pandammit.

Talking to people soothes me. It's kind of hard to get fans to talk on the phone, though, and hardly anyone lives near me enough to go see on a regular basis. I swear San Bruno might as well be Outer Mongolia when it comes to Bay Area folks. I'm glad you have something simpler to ease you.
