Looking for Stuff and Finding Other Stuff
Apr. 25th, 2002 12:40 pm...
I just went looking for my old cassette tape of "The North Star Grassman and the Ravens" (which is how I remember the title but not necessarily what the title actually is, mind you), by (I think) Sandy Denny, because the song with a line about "blackwaterside" kept running through my head as I was working on "ditchwatersprite" just now. Didn't find TNSGatR, but did find the master-and-only recordings of Cats Laughing and Boiled In Lead when they played the Canterbury Inn for my birthday party convention thingie in August of 1990.
I should probably ask them whether they'd like copies, and what they'd like done with them. I should certainly get them dumped to digital or something, to preserve them, if it's not too late already.
That was a fun birthday, even if I did sprain my ankle dancing on the first night, and have to hop around with my cane the rest of the weekend. Fun, though. Rollercoasters with round-singing on them (which mightily disconcerted the attendants, hee hee!); Beth Meacham and Tappan King singing me the "Fishheads" theme on helium; the bestest practical amusement (not joke, really) ever played on me by good friends who know I mostly hate practical jokes; and so on. I can still see, in my mind's eye, Tappan hanging a spoon from his nose and solemnly intoning, "There are no accidents."
Heck of a thirtieth birthday. Suppose I oughtta get serious about planning the fiftieth. (Not sure I really do want to rent the Buddha Bar under the Hotel Crillon, even if it'd be still there and even if they'd let me, but anyhow....)

Re: Black Water Side
Date: 2002-04-25 11:18 am (UTC)On a bright summer's morning as I went a-walking
Viewing the streams that gently did flow,
As the bright sun arose, the hills did adorn
Surrounding the banks of the Black Water Side.
The entire song, with musical notation, is at the hyperlink above.

Date: 2002-04-25 03:21 pm (UTC)Actually, looking at the site and following the links over to the album info for North Star Grassman, I note that Sandy Denny is only a couple hops away from me on the grand interconnections and introductions diagram. Royston Wood played on the album, and he also used to play with Heather Wood (no relation; in fact, I think they called their band that); Heather used to be Mike's sweetie before he hooked up with me.
It's not so much that it is a small world as that it is folded so many times, I think....

Date: 2002-04-26 03:08 pm (UTC)My fortieth was celebrated at a party/concert featuring Todd Menton with special guest Gary Schulte. Cake and fun and a good time were had by many, and the decorations were really cool, because I had help from visiting Fun Conspirators..
