If you've recently decided to change your social media habits and have started a Dreamwidth account, welcome!

If you're reviving a previously existing account that you haven't posted in for a long time, welcome to you too!

And if you're already one of the usual suspects around these parts, hello hello and welcome to you as well!

Please feel invited to leave a comment and say how your day is going, how you wound up reading this today, and where else you want to be found on social media.

Bonus points if you tell about a really good memory of something that happened on social media, because I could use some smiling about good memories. Thanks!

Hello hello! I am reading my reading page while slowly eating breakfast, as is my habit. It is spring, and I can still see a lot of blossoms on my neighbor's red fruit tree (possibly cherry?) next door, despite the unseasonable snow recently.

Today I would like to go downstairs and sort beads, although I might not actually get there. I am trying to tweet less and DW more.

Hello!

My left shin is currently being warmed by my cat, so that's pretty good right there. (Joys of still hybrid work.)

I have been reading all the many things a most excellent [personal profile] elisem has to say in many places for quite a while now (back on Usenet in ... I think 1997?) Also previously on LiveJournal (active between 2001 and about 2015).

I've been on Dreamwidth (as [personal profile] jenett) since I could be, back in the dawn of time for the site.

I am [twitter.com profile] jenettsilver on Twitter for personal stuff, where I read but don't comment much.

I librarian (which does not produce much social media), read (ditto, I'm weird about talking about what I'm reading).

I also write books as Celia Lake, and tweet as [twitter.com profile] celialakebooks for that. (We will see what changes in social media landscape bring, as always. I got my start on forums, Usenet, and Yahoo! lists, so, um, been through these changes a few times now.)

Good things from social media: Lots of small wonderful encounters, meeting people (including you, Elise) who have now been part of my life for a long time. Keeping up connections with people I wasn't near physically, roughly all my adult life. Lots of little moments of hilarity.

(I think technically, I prodded you into writing the LolCat Rede in person, if I remember right, but the way that spread through the Internets continues to delight me.)

This week sees the seventh anniverary of a post I made for 3w4dw, three lines from an entirely imaginary novel... you'll never guess what happened next*! Only one of the many good things that have happened to me either on social media or as a result, like my collection of lovely [personal profile] elisem necklaces.

*It turned from idle imagination into 12 volumes and offshoots....

Hello, hello and welcome right back!

I'm (obviously) here as [personal profile] edschweppe, as well as on Twitter as [twitter.com profile] edschweppe. And I have a rather dusty blog at edmundschweppe.com.

Today certainly could be much better. However, figuring out how long I'd been on the bird site led me to think about what originally got me there (Fallen London), along with what got me there (Shadow Unit), which led to many good online memories.

(I was also today years old when I learned that Dreamwidth included a Twitter-specific user tag!)

Hi there. This and a few Discord servers are my only substantive social media things. I have a twitter account, which I use once in a while to poke at the MBTA or the like, and a Facebook account where I equally rarely post about the value of vaccination. I'm on Discord as Vicki #3467.

I just spent the afternoon with [personal profile] adrian_turtle, postponed from Saturday because she took a covid test on Saturday that came back with "answer cloudy, try again later."

There's a fluffy gray cat sitting next to the keyboard, so I am going to post this and comb the cat.

My day's going pretty well, although my feet hurt. It's all part of something I'll be blogging about in a week or two.

I check DW at least a couple times a day, and this showed right up on my reading page.

Since leaving Facebook in late 2019, my social media has been this and Discord. I'm Nekome#6602 there, mainly to be found on servers for sf cons or Pathfinder Society.

Hi, hi! I've been following you in one capacity or another since the mid-2000s when I was still a wide-eyed and very depressed teenager. I admired your work so, so much even then and now, as I sit in my 30s I'm still totally enamored with it.

We've spoken before on Twitter a few times. I reached out as a fellow person who has gone through sight issues, and you were so very sweet and I loved getting the chance to talk to you. You are such a kind, wonderful person who I am so happy to have had the chance to interact with.

Today in particular sees me with a cold or flu of some kind which is less than thrilling but at the same time, I'm using DW again, which is pretty nice, as I've been meaning to get back into the swing of this place for some time now.

As for good social media encounters, I met most, if not all the people I know through social media. I am grateful for all the things it has brought me, both its hard things and the good.

I hope tonight finds you well and I am sending so many kind thoughts. <3

I check my Dreamwidth list once most days, and that's in the morning over breakfast, so I'm almost always eating oatmeal when I come upon posts, as I was this time. I'm on any social media I'm on at all with my actual name, MarissaLingen; dw is the exception and if I was more invested I'd change it but whatever.

I remember once I had to stay up all night to do a sleep-deprivation EEG, and people on social media helped me stay awake, including people I ONLY knew through social media. So that was nice. (Also I did not have epilepsy, so that was good too.)

my laptop should take another trip to the computer doctor, as removing all the cat hair from its insides did not make it run cool enough I'm happy with it (merely cool enough I'm no longer seriously concerned about it); unfortunately removing all the cat hair from its insides did make the fan more able to run, and thus louder and shriller. and that's about how my day's going. the laptop fan is too noisy for me to focus on the things I need the laptop open for. additional supporting evidence: I paused the thing I opened the laptop for in order to switch windows just long enough to make one (1) note, and now I'm browsing my Dreamwidth reading page instead of doing the thing I opened the laptop for.

I'm also [tumblr.com profile] alexseanchai [twitter.com profile] AlexSeanchai [archiveofourown.org profile] AlexSeanchai (and if you see any other AlexSeanchai around that had better also be me)

Hello! I dusted off my DW last week after not posting here since before the pandammit. (I let a lot of things slide in the last 2+ years.)

Today was an achey day, partly because of the rainy/unsettled weather here and partly because I was hauling carts of books around all morning.

I post bits and pieces of my life, and creative projects when I finish them. That's another thing I am slowly getting back to after letting them slide the past two years.

I'm patchworkmouse on Twitter.

Hi, good to see you here again. I write at DW because it's the only place I can write at length and not feel like I'm crowding people's screens or something; if one comes here, one expects journaling and not memes. I'm not leaving Twitter, but I rarely post there. I do, however, have a lovely group of accounts I follow there, mostly dress historians, archaeologists, gardeners and photographers. And Jorts! Can't forget the happiness of the Jorts and Jean account. I have not had any bad Twitter experiences. I never correct people on the internet for being wrong. I don't care if they are.

I came to DW in 2017 when LJ threatened to ban deviants like me. Even if they didn't actually do so, having a backup is good. I read your journal on LJ, and found you on DW when I made the move.

I haven't posted here much in the past couple of years, well, because it's been harder to write at all, and because I don't really write longform much.

I'm on a couple of Discord servers with the same name, where I hang out with friends and friends of friends (who are now friends!). I post mostly on a Tumblr with the same name, because my shortform, list-type writing seems to fit better there.

Hi!

I'm here, finally catching up on dreamwidth after MONTHS, because I haven't been able to use my laptop -- things have been, well, a lot, but anyway.

Today has been good, I posted some jewelry for ko-fo & patreon patrons, & sold several pieces, I helped rearrange the kitchen, & I got most of a pallet taken apart so I can build more shelves. & now I'm catching up on more online stuff.

I'm found here, of course, on twitter as VagabondTabby, other places I don't pay a lot of attention to.

Good memories: jeez, there's a lot of them? But I'm gonna go waaaaaaaaaaaaay back to LJ, in the days when one would post that one's cat/dog/hamster was having a LOVE EMERGENCY & could someone COME HELP because you HAD TO PEE but there was a lizard/horse/goat on your lap who WOULD NOT ALLOW YOU TO GET UP.
