If you haven't read what Phil Broughton has to say about Fiesta ware and uranium glass, you have some fun ahead of you, at least if you like this sort of thing. I do, even beside the fact that it's work-related. And household-related. I am relieved to find that my pretty green citrus reamer does not fluoresce, so therefore it is not uranium glass. The other pieces next to it are, though.

(As long as we're discussing this sort of thing, please do not powder and snort any of the uranium glass in a Lioness jewelry piece. For that matter, don't leave it soaking in grapefruit juice you're going to drink either.)

Aside from how chemically bad an idea that is, it also sounds like a really unwise spell.

(I didn't know you'd made pieces with uranium glass.)

For internal uptake of material, the amount of uranium you would need to consume before I’d have radiological concerns has a measurement unit of “rail cars”.

Yes! It's like the quinine in bitter lemon. By the time your ears are ringing—or it can function as an abortifacient—you will have actually exploded from soda intake.

There is so very much uranium glass out there in the world. I'd bet that a lot of people who have made jewelry casually have used uranium glass and don't even know it. (Which is why it's handy that it's not as scary as rumor makes it out to be.)

That makes sense: unless you UV it to check.

I didn't grow up with Fiestaware in the house, but it falls in the category of things I can't remember not knowing about. I did grow up with a Geiger counter and some materials on which to demonstrate it, which is probably the explanation.

Well, that was a fascinating read! I only have one piece of uranium glass (an apple, of course), but I have a friend with a large collection so I sent it on to him.
