In the Liavek shared world of stories, the innkeepers had a series of three prayers. The books are hiding and I cannot look it up, nor does the net disclose this wisdom to me, search as I may.
Is this correct?

1. May these events not involve thy servant.

2. May these events not cost thy servant money.

3. May these events leave no trace in thy servant's memory.

got it!

tl;dr: you were close! The third is "... trace of themselves in..." and they're Capitalized In Title Case in the original. They're from "A Cup of Worrynot Tea".

Ooh. Been a good long time since a Liavek reread, and my copies are right behind me. If I happen to come across it before you mention it here I'll let you know!

... okay, in "The Illusionist" (the new story in Casting Fortune) the play is called May These Events, which got me flipping through it, and I found the following (pp. 156-7): "It was taken from the prayers to Bree Amal, who in Liavek (as in Saltigos, and other towns, amen) was deity to the keepers of disorderly houses, places of assignation, and inns of the jollier sort. There were many variations on the prayer (as the goddess, amen, amen) but all took the general form May these events not make thy servant's life any more complicated than it already is."

... so of course I flipped through the rest of Casting Fortune just to see, and got lucky more or less immediately. They're in "A Cup of Worrynot Tea." All pagerefs are to the Tor MMPB of Casting Fortune, because that's what I have immediately to hand.

p.6: "Her lips moved in the First Prayer to Bree Amal, Goddess of Keepers of Disorderly Houses: May These Events Not Involve Thy Servant."

p.27: "... a few words of the Second Prayer to Bree Amal the Great Madam, which is: May These Events Not Cost Thy Servant Money."

p. 43: "... the Third Prayer to Bree Amal, which is May These Events Leave No Trace of Themselves in Thy Servant's Memory."

I see I am late to the party. I use those prayers in my life even though I am not an innkeeper. I use them, hmm, not exactly ironically, well, maybe that. With an awareness of their narrow nature and the vagaries of humans, I guess.

Oh wow, that's something that had lodged itself in my memory! Stuck in such a way that it took another exposure to shake loose, but if naught else it's absolutely the perfect time for such prayers.
