Once during a gaming session which Mike was GMing, he handed me this note.

I'm pretty sure what he meant to do was sow seeds of confusion and trepidation amongst us players.

Isn't it just? Because he knew I would puzzle over it for a bit after reading it, and probably look at him quizzically with a tiny note of almost-eyerolling-ness, which would REALLY make the others wonder.

It really is a great GM move, too. All this payoff for very little effort. He probably had to work to keep the pleased-with-himself look off his face.

That's an excellently devious GM move. He had beautiful handwriting, too.

I wonder if he had any inkling of the importance that it would absorb and have these many years later. Possibly not; it does not seem by any means inevitable that it should do so. But it is beautifully entertaining that it has.
